Famous Landmarks in Africa
There are many landmarks worth visiting in Africa. These landmarks are a constant tourist spots visited by many people from across the globe.
One of these magnificent landmarks is located in Zimbabwe, South Africa. Mosi-oa-Tunya meaning “The Smoke That Thunders” or most commonly known as The Victoria Falls is one of the most spectacular sights in the world. This natural wonder was made by thousands of years of erosion.
Twice the size of Niagra Falls and several times longer, this is an ideal place to visit while in Africa.
On the north-eastern part of Africa, you will find Egypt. Here you will find the ancient pyramids, which are said to be the burial grounds of ancient rulers of Egypt most commonly know as pharaohs. Also in this region is the Citadel of Qait Bey which is found in Alexandria. The fortress has a magnificent view that overlooks the city and the Mediterranean Sea.
Located in Central Africa, Rwanda where you can find the The Genocide Memorial that gives insight on one of the worlds greatest tragedies. Also, the Parc National des Volcans where the you can find mountain gorillas and was the setting for Gorilla’s in the Mist author Dian Fossey’s research.
In Gitea, found in Bujumbura which is the western part of the country Burundi, Central Africa, is a large market in the center of the town, and its Museum of Traditions that displays ancient utensils, pictures, and commented visits. Also, you can climb the “Belvedere” on top of the Bujumbura where you will be able to visit the mausoleum of Prince Louis Rwagasore, founder of the Uprona party and Hero of the independence of Burundi.
For flamingo enthusiasts, an ideal spot to visit would be Lake Nakuru which is found in Nakuru, a city that in Rift Valley, a province of Kenya. The lake is well known for its large population of flamingos. Also located in Kenya is Mombasa which is the second largest city in the region as is also East Africa’s oldest settlement. Here in Mombasa is where you can find Fort Jesus, an old slave port built by the Portuguese during their short occupation period..
These are but a few of Africa’s memorial and beautiful landmarks that are worth visiting. Although there are some countries within the continent that have a bit of unrest, these spots are still worth the trip.
